FAQs
What is the Surrey Deaf Children’s Society?
SDCS is a volunteer-run charity that supports deaf children, young adults, and their families across Surrey. They offer events, workshops, and peer support to help families connect, share experiences, and access resources.
how do i become a member?
You can join by filling out our membership form. Membership helps you stay informed about upcoming events and access support.
how is sdcs funded?
SDCS relies on fundraising, grants, and donations. We’re always grateful for support from members and the wider community to help sustain our programs.
SDCS is managed by a committee of volunteers and then we have help from other parents at our larger events. Please talk to a committee member if you would like to get more involved.
who runs the charity?
Do you support families with children with temporary hearing loss?
Due to resource constraints we do not, so recommend contacting the National Deaf Children’s Society for resources and support.
Where can I get advice or support for my deaf child and our family?
The great thing about being a member of SDCS is that you are surrounded by other parents and carers who understand the challenges and joys of raising deaf children.
They share practical advice, lived experiences, and emotional support and can suggest other sources of information and support.
Also the National Deaf Children’s Society has a Helpline and lots of resources to support children, parents/carers and professionals.
Who can join sdcs?
Any family with a deaf child living in Surrey and the borders of London is welcome to join. Membership is open to parents, carers, and extended family members who want to connect and support one another.
